About the Role

Area Sales Manager - Scotland

Region/Territory: Scotland
Salary: £45,000–£65,000 Basic (DOE) + Performance Related Commission/Bonus
Benefits: Company Car | Generous Pension | Private Healthcare

An established £1m+ sales territory. The opportunity to triple it. Could you be the person to make it happen?

SimWest is recruiting an ambitious Area Sales Manager for a market-leading international machinery manufacturer looking to significantly grow its Scottish territory.

With an established customer base, annual sales in the region exceeding £1m and ambitious growth targets, this is an opportunity to make a genuine commercial impact.

We're looking for someone who enjoys developing new customers, maximising opportunities within existing accounts and selling engineered solutions based on value rather than price alone.

You don't need experience selling the company's particular machinery. Your technical understanding, commercial drive and ambition are more important.

The Role

As Area Sales Manager, you'll take ownership of the Scottish territory, with considerable autonomy and two equally important priorities:

  • Existing Account Development: Maximising sales opportunities within the current customer base by introducing new products and promoting the company's wider machinery and engineered solutions portfolio.
  • New Business Development: Proactively identifying, prospecting and winning new customers across Scotland to increase market share and drive territory growth.

Your wider responsibilities will include:

  • Building relationships with business owners, engineering teams and senior decision-makers.
  • Understanding customer requirements and recommending suitable technical solutions.
  • Managing consultative sales opportunities from initial enquiry through to quotation, negotiation and order placement.
  • Developing a strong sales pipeline and delivering sustainable revenue growth.

You'll be selling high-value capital equipment, with typical orders around £150,000 and larger projects reaching seven figures.

Comprehensive product training and a planned territory handover will help you get established.

About You

We welcome applications from experienced Area Sales Managers, Regional Sales Managers, Sales Engineers, and Business Development Managers.

We're also interested in Field Service Engineers or Service Engineers with strong customer-facing skills, commercial awareness and the ambition to move into technical sales.

The company is committed to developing its people and can provide extensive training, technical knowledge and ongoing professional development to help you succeed.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience with industrial machinery, engineering equipment, automation, capital equipment or other technical solutions.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive approach to prospecting, identifying opportunities and developing business.
  • The motivation and organisational skills to manage your own sales territory.
  • Commercial awareness, ambition and a genuine interest in technical sales.

Previous sales experience is advantageous, but commercially minded engineers with the right attitude and potential will also be considered.

Salary & Benefits

  • Base salary between £45,000–£65,000 pa, salary level depending on experience.
  • Commission/Bonus: Potential to earn up to 100% of basic salary.
  • Company Car
  • Generous Company Pension
  • Private Healthcare
  • Development: Comprehensive product training and planned territory handover.

Location & Travel

This is a field-based Area Sales Manager position covering Scotland, ideally suited to someone based within approximately 90 minutes of Glasgow or Edinburgh, although applications from suitably qualified candidates elsewhere in Scotland are also welcome.

Occasional overnight travel will be required for customer visits, demonstrations and training.

Interested?

Whether you're an experienced Area Sales Manager, a Technical Sales Engineer ready for greater responsibility or a customer-facing engineer looking to develop a career in sales, we'd be interested in hearing from you.

Apply today or contact Stephen Simpson at SimWest Engineering Recruitment for a confidential discussion.

All applications will be handled in the strictest confidence.
