Earning Potential: Circa £70,000 per annum
Basic Salary: Circa £40,000
Additional Earnings: Overtime at 1.5x, paid travel time and site allowances
Travel: UK, Europe & Worldwide
Earn circa £70,000 while travelling the UK and internationally installing industrial machinery.
We are looking for a mechanically skilled engineer who enjoy hands-on installation work, working on customer sites and is genuinely comfortable spending significant periods working away from home.
You will ideally be based in the North West, although candidates living within approximately two hours of Manchester Airport will also be considered.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are recruiting a Mechanical Installation Engineer for an established engineering business with a strong order book and growing pipeline of machinery installation projects.
This is not a traditional workshop-based Mechanical Fitter position, nor is it predominantly a breakdown/service role.
Around 80% of your time will be focused on machinery installation, working as part of an experienced engineering team to install, assemble, position and mechanically complete industrial equipment at customer sites throughout the UK and overseas.
The remaining 20% will involve service and aftermarket support.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING
Your work will typically include:
- Installing and assembling industrial machinery and capital equipment
- Mechanically fitting, aligning, setting and positioning equipment
- Working from mechanical and engineering drawings
- Using hand tools, power tools and specialist installation equipment
- Supporting machinery installations through to mechanical completion
- Working alongside engineers, contractors and customer teams
- Assisting with servicing, maintenance and aftermarket work when required
- Completing site documentation, timesheets and expenses
- Maintaining high standards of safety while working on customer sites
THE TRAVEL
Travel is a major part of this position, so it is important that you genuinely enjoy working away from home.
Projects take place throughout the UK, Europe and worldwide.
Some installations may involve working away for approximately three weeks at a time before returning home.
Larger projects can run for three or four months, although this would normally involve several separate trips to the customer site rather than remaining overseas continuously.
There will also be occasions where project schedules change, early starts are required or additional flexibility is needed to get an installation completed.
WHO COULD THIS SUIT?
We are interested in speaking with people from a range of mechanically biased engineering backgrounds.
You may currently be working as a:
- Mechanical Installation Engineer
- Mechanical Fitter
- Machine Builder
- Field Installation Engineer
- Mechanical Service Engineer
- Field Service Engineer
- Installation Technician
- Site Mechanical Engineer
- Welder/Fabricator (with mechanical fitting skills)
The most important thing is that you have strong practical mechanical skills and experience working with industrial machinery or equipment.
Experience installing or working with special purpose machinery, production or packaging equipment, conveyors, material handling systems, automated machinery or other capital equipment would be particularly relevant.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You will ideally have:
- Strong hands-on mechanical fitting experience
- Previous machinery or equipment installation experience
- Confidence working with large mechanical assemblies and equipment
- The ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Experience using mechanical fitting tools and equipment
- Previous experience working on customer, construction or installation sites
- A practical approach to problem solving
- Good organisational skills
- A reliable and professional approach when representing the business
- The flexibility to travel extensively and work away from home
Previous forklift or IPAF certification would be useful, although training can be provided where required.

With a basic salary of circa £40,000, engineers have the potential to earn around £70,000 per annum through overtime, paid travel time and site allowances, depending on project activity and time spent travelling.
There are also genuine longer-term development and progression opportunities available. The business has a healthy workload and strong pipeline of installation projects and is looking for engineers who can grow with the team.
