Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
Location: Bolton
Salary: £52,000 per annum
Shift Pattern: 4-on/4-off - Rotating Days & Nights
We are recruiting a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer for a busy food manufacturing site in Bolton.
You will be joining a high-volume production environment where engineering response times, equipment reliability and food-safety standards are all critical. The site operates a range of automated processing, conveying and packaging machinery, with the engineering team responsible for keeping production running safely and efficiently around the clock.
The Role
Working as part of the shift engineering team, you will provide electrical and mechanical maintenance support across the factory.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Responding to breakdowns across processing and packaging lines
- Carrying out planned maintenance on conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pumps and pneumatic systems
- Fault-finding on fillers, wrappers, labellers, checkweighers and metal-detection equipment
- Maintaining automated handling equipment, including case packers, palletisers and robotic systems
- Diagnosing faults on sensors, inverters, control panels and PLC-controlled machinery
- Supporting maintenance on mixers, ovens, cooking equipment, and process plant
- Replacing bearings, chains, belts, seals, motors and other mechanical components
- Investigating recurring faults and helping to improve machine reliability
- Supporting product changeovers, start-ups and production trials
- Completing maintenance work in line with food-safety, hygiene and health-and-safety requirements
- Working closely with production teams to reduce downtime and improve line performance
This is a hands-on role where you will need to be comfortable moving between electrical fault-finding, mechanical repairs and planned maintenance throughout the shift.
About You
We are looking for an engineer with previous maintenance experience in food, beverage, FMCG or another fast-paced manufacturing environment.
You should have:
- A recognised electrical, mechanical or multi-skilled engineering qualification
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- Experience maintaining automated production or packaging machinery
- Experience fault-finding on PLC-controlled equipment
- Knowledge of motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics and control systems
- The ability to work calmly and methodically during production breakdowns
Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Ishida, Multivac, GEA, Marel, Sidel, Krones, Tetra Pak, Ilapak or similar would also be advantageous.
