Production Engineer Job

  • Location: Leeds
  • Full-Time | Permanent
  • £35,000 - £42,000 pa (DOE) + Benefits

Join a thriving, well-established engineering and manufacturing business where your ideas will directly impact how high-quality machinery is produced.

This is an ideal role for someone with experience in Planning, Routings, Routes of Manufacture, and shopfloor processes who wants to work closely with design, production, and procurement.

We are seeking a proactive Production Engineer to manage production routings, improve manufacturing workflow, and support the efficient planning and delivery of engineered components.

You’ll act as the key link between design, manufacturing, and procurement teams - ensuring smooth production, accurate build information, and well-structured routes within the ERP/MRP system.

What you’ll be doing

  • Creating, updating, and improving production routings and Routes of Manufacture to ensure accurate workflow planning.
  • Planning machining and fabrication routes that deliver components on time and to spec.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings and documentation to determine the most efficient manufacturing methods.
  • Setting up and maintaining routing data within the ERP/MRP system, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Identifying work holding, tooling, and process requirements for various engineering tasks.
  • Sourcing and purchasing parts, materials, tooling, and consumables required for production.
  • Providing practical engineering support across the workshop, resolving technical queries and quality issues.
  • Supporting continuous improvement projects that enhance manufacturing efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Collaborating with design, machining, fabrication, and assembly teams to optimise build processes for complex machinery.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong understanding of workshop practices, including metal cutting techniques, speeds and feeds, tooling selection, and work holding.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with confidence.
  • Previous experience in an engineering, manufacturing, Routing Engineer, Planning Engineer, or Production Planner role.
  • Comfortable managing routings, planning data, and job structures within ERP/MRP systems.
  • A practical problem-solver who can work hands-on to support engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • A background in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.

Why join?

You’ll be part of a stable, respected engineering business producing specialist machinery, with opportunities to influence how production processes are planned, routed, and improved. As a Production Engineer, you will play a genuinely impactful role in driving efficiency, accuracy, and quality across the full manufacturing workflow.

Apply today for a Production Engineer role in Leeds. Create routings, plan routes of manufacture and support machinery production.
