About the Role

Control Systems Engineer

Location: Remote / Greater Manchester (with international travel)

Salary: Up to £55,000 basic salary + paid overtime + bonus (expected annual earnings of around £80,000)

Are you a Control Systems Engineer, Controls Engineer or PLC Programmer who enjoys seeing projects through from concept to commissioning?

I'm recruiting on behalf of an established Greater Manchester manufacturer that designs and builds high-value capital equipment for high-speed manufacturing environments. The business is looking for an engineer who wants to be involved in the complete project lifecycle, from PLC software development through to commissioning and ongoing customer support.

Whether you currently work as a Controls Systems Engineer, Control Software Engineer, Controls Engineer or PLC Programmer, this could be an opportunity to join a business where your input extends far beyond writing code.

The Role

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development and delivery of bespoke automation projects, working with customers across a range of manufacturing sectors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • PLC and HMI software development
  • Programming Siemens and Allen-Bradley / Rockwell control systems
  • PLC software testing and validation
  • Loading and testing software on control panels
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs)
  • Commissioning machinery in the UK and overseas
  • Fault-finding and troubleshooting control systems
  • Providing ongoing customer and technical support
  • Supporting projects from initial concept through to final handover

This position would suit someone who enjoys the variety that comes with being a Control Software Engineer or Controls Systems Engineer, rather than being restricted to software development alone.

About You

To be considered, you should have experience in several of the following areas:

  • PLC programming and software development
  • Siemens PLCs, including TIA Portal
  • Allen-Bradley and Rockwell control systems
  • HMI development
  • Industrial automation and control systems
  • FAT and SAT testing
  • Machinery commissioning
  • Fault-finding and diagnostics
  • Customer-facing technical support
  • High-speed manufacturing, special-purpose machinery or capital equipment

Engineers currently working as a Controls Engineer, PLC Programmer, Control Software Engineer or Controls Systems Engineer are all encouraged to apply.

Salary and Benefits

  • Basic salary up to £55,000
  • Paid overtime
  • Annual bonus
  • Expected earnings of around £80,000
  • Potential flexibility on the basic salary for exceptional candidates who can bring additional skills and experience
  • Private Healthcare & Company Pension
  • Remote working opportunities
  • Exposure to a wide range of automation projects
  • International travel opportunities

Location and Travel

The company is open to remote working arrangements, although the role will involve overseas travel and occasional visits to its control panel builder in the North West to load and test PLC software.

If you're a Control Systems Engineer looking for a role that offers genuine involvement in the full project lifecycle, from programming and testing through to commissioning and customer support, I'd be keen to hear from you.
