Earning potential: circa £70,000 per annum
Additional earnings: Overtime at 1.5x, paid travel time and site allowances
Candidate Location: Ideally based in the North West, within approximately one hour of Manchester Airport

Enjoy hands-on mechanical fitting and the opportunity to travel internationally?

We are recruiting a Mechanical Fitter / Installation Engineer for an established engineering business with a strong order book and growing pipeline of bespoke production machinery installations.

You will work as part of an experienced engineering team, helping to install, assemble and mechanically complete industrial equipment at customer sites.

Around 80–90% of your time will be spent travelling and installing machinery at customer sites. The remaining 10–20% will involve supporting machinery building and testing in the Manchester workshop. Service and aftermarket work will also form part of the role when required.

What you’ll be doing

  • Installing and assembling industrial machinery and capital equipment through to mechanical completion.
  • Fitting, aligning, setting and positioning equipment using engineering drawings.
  • Using hand tools, power tools and specialist installation equipment.
  • Working alongside engineers, contractors and customer teams.
  • Maintaining high standards of site safety and completing documentation, timesheets and expenses.

Travel and working away

This role suits someone who enjoys site work and is comfortable spending significant periods away from home.

You can expect to spend up to approximately three weeks away at a time, travelling to customer sites across the UK and internationally.

Some larger installation projects may run for three to four months, but you won't be away for the entire period. These projects typically involve several separate trips, with time back home between visits.

Flexibility is essential, including early starts, changing project schedules and additional time when needed to complete installations.

What we’re looking for

Strong practical mechanical skills and experience with industrial machinery or equipment are essential.

Ideally, you will also bring:

  • Hands-on mechanical fitting and machinery installation experience.
  • Confidence working with large mechanical assemblies and reading engineering drawings.
  • Experience using mechanical fitting tools and working on customer, construction or installation sites.
  • Practical problem-solving skills, good organisation and a reliable, professional approach.

Experience with special purpose machinery, production or packaging equipment, conveyors, material handling systems, automated machinery or other capital equipment would be particularly relevant.

We welcome applications from a range of mechanically biased engineering backgrounds. Suitable roles include Mechanical Fitter, Machine Builder, Mechanical Installation Engineer, Field Installation Engineer, Mechanical Service Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Installation Technician and Site Mechanical Engineer.

Forklift or IPAF certification would be useful, although training can be provided.

What’s on offer

A basic salary of circa £40,000, with earning potential of around £70,000 per annum through overtime at 1.5x, paid travel time and site allowances. Total earnings depend on project activity and time spent travelling.

You will join a business with a healthy workload and opportunities for longer-term development and progression.

If you enjoy machinery, mechanical installation, site work and international travel, we would be interested in hearing from you.
